Access for Persons with Disabilities in the Justice System

The Ministry of Law and Justice highlights the legal aid entitlements for persons with disabilities under the LSA Act, 1987. In 2023-24, 11,591 beneficiaries with disabilities received legal aid, representing 0.74% of total beneficiaries. NALSA is implementing specific schemes, including the 2024 scheme for mentally ill and intellectually disabled individuals, ensuring accessible legal services. The government is also enhancing judicial infrastructure to be disability-friendly and developing a robust digital infrastructure under the eCourts Project Phase III, with significant budget allocations for accessibility improvements.
