Adequacy of EV Charging Stations in India

As of August 1, 2025, India has installed a total of 29,277 public electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS), with 2,326 located in Uttar Pradesh. The government has allocated Rs. 2,000 crore under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme to enhance EV charging infrastructure across the country. New guidelines for the installation and operation of EV charging infrastructure have been issued to ensure a connected and interoperable network. Setting up EVCS is an unlicensed activity, allowing any entity to establish charging stations.
