AI in Weather Forecasting by Ministry of Earth Sciences
The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) are utilizing AI-based tools for weather and climate forecasting, including the Advanced Dvorak Technique for cyclone intensity estimation and various AI/ML models for short-range forecasting. The Gram Panchayat Level Weather Forecasting (GPLWF) initiative provides localized weather data to farmers, while the newly launched Bharat Forecasting System offers high-resolution forecasts. The MoES is enhancing its computing capabilities for AI research and has established collaborations with academic institutions to improve weather forecasting accuracy and accessibility.
