Amendment Delays Whistle Blowers Protection Act's Implementation
The Whistle Blowers Protection Act, passed in 2014, has yet to be implemented as the government seeks to amend it to include safeguards against disclosures that could impact national security and integrity. Despite the initial passage of the Whistle Blowers Protection Bill in 2011 and its approval in 2014, the Act remains inactive without government notification. An amendment bill introduced in 2015 lapsed after the dissolution of the Sixteenth Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, the Central Vigilance Commission manages public interest disclosures under the PIDPI resolution, as data from 2020 to 2024 shows thousands of complaints processed each year.
