Approval of BioE3 Policy to Boost Biotechnology in India

The Union Cabinet approved the BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment & Employment) policy in August 2024, aimed at enhancing R&D and entrepreneurship in six thematic sectors. The policy focuses on establishing Biomanufacturing & Bio-AI hubs and a Biofoundry to promote sustainable practices addressing climate change, food security, and health. Experiments with microalgae and cyanobacteria on the ISS aim to develop biological life support systems for space missions. The Biofoundry will facilitate interdisciplinary research and innovation in microbial biomanufacturing, supporting various sectors including food, agriculture, and healthcare.
