Assam's Tea Industry Boosted by Tea Development & Promotion Scheme

The Government of India's Ministry of Commerce & Industry has implemented the Tea Development & Promotion Scheme (TDPS) in Assam, aiming to elevate the state's tea industry. Administered by the Tea Board, the scheme has focused on enhancing tea production, quality, and exports, while also empowering small tea growers by organizing them into Self Help Groups and Farmer Producer Organizations. Significant financial resources have been allocated to Assam, with over ₹150 crore utilized for specific activities such as replantation, establishing mini tea factories, organic farming conversion, and capacity building programs. The initiatives have led to increased tea exports, indicating positive sector growth. These efforts align with recommendations from NITI Aayog's evaluation to improve productivity and support small producers.
