Audit of MGNREGS Highlights Performance and Governance
The Ministry of Rural Development has conducted a performance audit of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) to assess its implementation and impact. The audit, led by the Comptroller & Auditor General of India, evaluates risk areas, internal controls, and procedural compliance. Since 2013-14, risk-based internal audits have been conducted in 225 districts across 30 states/UTs. The scheme has significantly improved livelihood security, reduced migration, and contributed to rural infrastructure and environmental sustainability. Ongoing evaluations and reviews ensure effective governance and implementation of the scheme.
