Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme Shows Positive Outcomes
The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Scheme, launched in 2015 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, has evolved from a policy initiative to a national movement aiming to address issues related to the Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and the empowerment of girls and women. Recently, the scheme's success has been highlighted with an increase in the national Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) from 918 in 2014-15 to 929 in 2024-25, and a rise in the gross enrollment ratio of girls in secondary schools from 75.51% to 80.2% during the same period. These improvements reflect the scheme's impact on changing mindsets and behaviors towards valuing the girl child and promoting her rights. The scheme's implementation is carried out by state governments and UT administrations, with annual monitoring by the Programme Approval Board.
