BharatGen AI Models Initiative

The BharatGen initiative is India's first government-supported project aimed at developing foundational AI models tailored for Indian languages and contexts. Currently covering 9 languages, it plans to expand to 15 by December 2025 and all 22 scheduled languages by June 2026. Applications are being piloted in agriculture, governance, and defense, with a focus on real-world deployment. The initiative is part of the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems and involves several leading Indian institutions.
