Blue Carbon Mapping Initiatives in India

The Ministry of Earth Sciences has reported on blue carbon stock assessments conducted in India's mangrove regions to evaluate carbon sequestration potential. The Forest Survey of India (FSI) carried out a national assessment across all states and Union Territories with mangrove forests. The findings support climate resilience strategies, carbon budgeting under India's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and initiatives like the Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats & Tangible Incomes (MISHTI), aimed at restoring mangroves and enhancing coastal ecosystem sustainability. This information was shared by Dr. Jitendra Singh in the Rajya Sabha.
