Brahmaputra River Poised for Major Economic Boost Through Government Initiatives
The Government of India is investing heavily in transforming the Brahmaputra River into a key economic corridor to facilitate trade, transport, tourism, and sustainable water management in the Northeast. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal leads this initiative, which includes infrastructure development such as community jetties and ship repair facilities, as well as the adoption of modern technologies like GIS and LiDAR for efficient river management. Over the next five years, projects worth ₹4,800 crore are planned to improve connectivity and logistics, supporting the region's economic growth.
