Cabinet Approves Expansion of Medical Education Capacity in India
The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a significant expansion of medical education in India, aiming to increase 5,000 postgraduate (PG) seats and 5,023 undergraduate (UG) seats in government medical colleges by 2028-29. This initiative, part of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS), will enhance the availability of doctors and specialists, improve healthcare access, and generate employment opportunities. The total financial outlay for this initiative is Rs. 15,034.50 crore, with a focus on underserved areas and leveraging existing infrastructure for cost-effective healthcare expansion.
