Cabinet Approves Renaming Kerala to Keralam

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposal to change the name of the State of Kerala to Keralam. This decision will lead to the President of India referring the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026 to the State Legislative Assembly of Kerala for review. Upon receiving the views from the Legislative Assembly, further action will be taken to introduce the Bill in Parliament for formalizing the name change, as per constitutional procedures under Article 3.
