The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a targeted subsidy of Rs. 300 per 14.2 kg LPG cylinder for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for the fiscal year 2025-26, amounting to Rs. 12,000 crore. This initiative aims to provide deposit-free LPG connections to women from poor households, with the goal of making LPG more affordable and ensuring its sustained usage. The average LPG consumption among PMUY households has shown improvement, rising from 3 refills in 2019-20 to 4.47 in FY 2024-25.
