CAQM Mandates Co-Firing of Paddy Straw Pellets in Brick Kilns
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has issued a Statutory Direction mandating all brick kilns in districts beyond the NCR area of Haryana and Punjab to co-fire paddy straw-based pellets and briquettes. The directive aims for a gradual increase in co-firing, reaching 50% by November 2028, to combat air pollution caused by open stubble burning. The state governments are required to implement this directive and report compliance monthly.
