CAQM Notifies Thermal Power Plants for Biomass Norm Violations

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has issued Show Cause Notices to six thermal power plants within a 300 km radius of Delhi for failing to comply with biomass co-firing regulations. The plants, mandated to co-fire a minimum of 5% biomass pellets or briquettes with coal under the Environment (Utilisation of Crop Residue by Thermal Power Plants) Rules, 2023, have been proposed an environmental compensation totaling approximately ₹61.85 crore. The notices underscore the government's continued efforts to mitigate air pollution and promote crop residue management in NCR and adjoining areas.
