CCI Orders Maharashtra Liquor Associations to Stop Anti-Competitive Practices
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has ordered the Maharashtra Wine Merchants Association, Pune District Wine Merchants Association, and Association of Progressive Liquor Vendors to cease anti-competitive practices. These associations were found to be collectively imposing conditions on manufacturers, distributors, and sellers of alcoholic beverages, a violation of Sections 3(3)(a), 3(3)(b), and 3(1) of the Competition Act, 2002. They prescribed terms such as pricing, discounts, credit periods, and required NOCs for launching new products, which should be independently determined by enterprises.
