CCI Penalizes FPBAI for Anti-Competitive Practices

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has imposed penalties on the Federation of Publishers’ and Booksellers’ Association in India (FPBAI) and its office-bearers for engaging in anti-competitive practices. These include fixing conversion rates for importing international journals above standard rates, imposing restrictive terms on members regarding pricing and credit, and issuing a list of approved suppliers to limit competition. The CCI has directed FPBAI to raise awareness about these anti-competitive practices among its members and has imposed fines totaling INR 6.33 lacs.
