Central Government's New Rules for Stray Dog Management

The Central Government has introduced the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023, to manage the stray dog population in collaboration with local bodies and animal welfare organizations. The rules emphasize sterilization and vaccination programs, aligning with international standards. Financial assistance and infrastructure support are provided to facilitate these initiatives, aiming to cover at least 70% of stray dogs. The Ministry of Health is also working on rabies elimination through the National Action Plan for Dog-Mediated Rabies Elimination.
