The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, represented by Union Minister of State Shri Durgadas Uikey, has highlighted significant issues in the application of the Panchayats (Extension to the Scheduled Areas) Act (PESA) in Odisha. Despite the state incorporating PESA provisions into their State Panchayati Raj Act, challenges such as delayed rule notification, insufficient awareness, and low participation persist. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has created 10 indicators to help states strengthen their PESA implementation, addressing issues in conformity and execution.
