Challenges Under Jal Jeevan Mission
The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), initiated by the Government of India in August 2019, aims to provide potable water to every rural household through functional tap water connections. As of July 2025, 80.94% of rural households have access to tap water, up from 16.7% at the mission's start. Despite significant progress, challenges such as lack of reliable water sources, technical capacity issues, and geographical barriers persist. The government plans to extend the mission until 2028 with enhanced funding to achieve 100% coverage and ensure sustainable water service delivery.
