Cloud Seeding Research in India: CAIPEEX Study Findings
The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) conducted the Cloud Aerosol Interaction and Precipitation Enhancement Experiment (CAIPEEX) from 2018-2019 to study cloud seeding in the rain shadow region of India. The study revealed that rainfall could be enhanced by up to 46% in certain areas. IITM is developing technology for cloud seeding, but operational readiness is hindered by a lack of aircraft and necessary permissions. Future research will focus on environmental impacts and the potential for cloud seeding to reduce urban air pollution.
