Coastal Erosion Assessment Along Gujarat Coastline

The National Centre for Coastal Research, under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, has conducted a comprehensive study analyzing shoreline changes along Gujarat's Valsad and Navsari districts using data from 1990 to 2022. Over 58% of Valsad's and 60% of Navsari's coastlines are experiencing varying levels of erosion. Although the NCCR identifies high-risk erosion zones, no specific coastal protection measures have yet been recommended. The government has, however, established guidelines for erosion mitigation through the National Disaster Management Fund, as per recommendations by the 15th Finance Commission.
