Compliance of Environment Protection Rules, 2025 by End-of-Life Vehicles
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has implemented the Environment Protection (End-of-Life Vehicles) Rules, 2025, mandating producers to manage end-of-life vehicles through extended producer responsibility (EPR). The rules require producers to meet annual scrapping targets for vehicles based on their age, and Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs) must ensure environmentally sound scrapping processes. Compliance is monitored by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs), with penalties for non-compliance. An Implementation Committee has been established to oversee the rules' enforcement, alongside other related initiatives by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
