Comprehensive Safety Measures Ensuring the Functioning of Nuclear Plants
The Department of Atomic Energy highlights a robust safety framework for India's nuclear power plants, involving multi-tier safety review committees from NPCIL and AERB. All Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) are mandated to undergo Periodic Safety Reviews (PSR) every ten years to evaluate and upgrade safety measures, considering factors like aging and operating experience. Currently, eight reactors are under construction, contributing to a total output of 6600 MW with ten more reactors at pre-project stages.
