Construction of Roads Using Plastic Waste Under PMGSY

The Ministry of Rural Development has reported significant progress in constructing roads using waste plastic under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). Over the past five years, a total of 56,875 km of road works have been sanctioned, with 43,700 km completed. The initiative promotes the use of waste plastic in road construction to reduce environmental impact and improve road durability. Guidelines mandate that at least 70% of eligible road lengths must incorporate waste plastic, leading to better performance and lower maintenance costs compared to conventional roads.
