Cultural Mapping in Rural India: Achievements and Future Plans of Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar
The Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar (MGMD) portal, under the National Mission on Cultural Mapping, has covered 6.23 lakh villages across India as part of its initiative to map cultural elements. The program documents diverse cultural elements in villages, from oral traditions to local art forms. With a budget of Rs. 89.99 crore for 2021-2026, MGMD supports rural tourism and economic development without directly benefiting local artisans. No plans are currently in place for a second phase of mapping.
