Decline in Coal Imports by Thermal Power Plants
The Ministry of Coal reports a significant decrease in coal imports by thermal power plants, dropping from 62.5 Million Tonnes in FY 2024-25 to 45.4 Million Tonnes in FY 2025-26, marking a decline of approximately 27.4%. The government has implemented several measures to reduce this dependency on imported coal, including increasing the Annual Contracted Quantity (ACQ) and introducing the Revised SHAKTI Policy, which aims to enhance domestic coal production and availability.
