Development of Climate Resilient Fishermen Villages in Tamil Nadu
The Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) aims to develop 100 coastal fishermen villages into Climate Resilient Coastal Fishermen Villages (CRCFV) in Tamil Nadu. Sixteen villages have been selected for this initiative, focusing on enhancing infrastructure and economic activities to combat climate change impacts. The project aligns with Tamil Nadu's climate action plan and includes initiatives like seaweed cultivation and artificial reefs. In 2024, Tamil Nadu harvested 6.79 lakh tonnes of fish, marking a 20% increase from the previous year, with a focus on sustainable fishing practices and marine pollution awareness.
