Development of Iconic Tourist Centres in India

The Ministry of Tourism has launched operational guidelines under the Special Assistance to the States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme to develop iconic tourist centres across India. A total of 87 projects were submitted, with 40 projects sanctioned for ₹3295.76 Crore, fully funded by the central government. The initiative aims to enhance private sector participation in tourism, with states required to evaluate potential Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects. The Ministry has also advised states to assess the carrying capacity of these projects to ensure sustainable tourism development.
