Digital Transformation Planned for India's Census 2027
The Ministry of Home Affairs, led by Minister of State Shri Nityanand Rai, has announced plans to conduct the 2027 Census of India entirely through digital means. Data collection is set to occur via mobile applications, and residents will have the option to self-enumerate using a dedicated web portal. The initiative aims to manage and monitor the census process through a centralized digital platform, enhancing efficiency and accuracy in data gathering. The Census will continue to collect comprehensive demographic information, including migration data based on individuals’ birthplaces and last residences. These innovations reflect a significant technological shift in how the Census is conducted, aiming to streamline operations and improve data quality.
