Digitization of Judiciary Records Under India's eCourts Mission Mode Project
The Ministry of Law and Justice of India has announced the implementation of Phase-III of the eCourts Mission Mode Project with an investment of Rs 7210 crore under the National eGovernance Plan. The project aims to enhance the Indian judiciary system by digitalizing court records, employing ICT (Information and Communication Technology) for better access, reliability, and transparency in justice delivery. It includes the digitization of both legacy and new case files, which has seen significant progress with 224 crore pages in High Courts and 354 crore pages in District and Subordinate Courts digitized as of September 2025. The project features multiple digital initiatives like the Case Information System (CIS) and National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) to ensure better public access to court information and enhance judicial productivity. New AI-powered tools such as the Legal Research Analysis Assistant (LegRAA) and Digital Courts 2.1 are also introduced to aid judges in managing case data efficiently. The news was shared by the Minister of State, Arjun Ram Meghwal, in the Rajya Sabha.
