DoT Strengthens Telecom Security with Sanchar Saathi Initiative
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has implemented the Telecommunications (Telecom Cyber Security) Amendment Rules, 2025, enhancing security measures within the telecom sector. Central to this initiative is the Sanchar Saathi platform, which aids in reporting fraud, blocking lost mobile devices, and verifying legitimate mobile connections. Since its launch, over 1.44 crore mobile connections have been disconnected for verification failures, and 86 lakh connections identified as fraudulent have been terminated. Additionally, DoT has recruited Sanchar Mitras, student volunteers who participate in extensive campaigns to raise public awareness about digital safety and fraud prevention, employing diverse communication channels such as social media, ads, and local outreach. The rules became effective on October 22, 2025, as per the government's official gazette notification.
