DRDO Launches Indian Radio Software Architecture Standard 1.0

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has released the Indian Radio Software Architecture (IRSA) standard 1.0 to enhance interoperability in military communication. This comprehensive software specification for Software Defined Radios (SDR) aims to ensure waveform portability and SDR interoperability. The launch marks a significant step towards self-reliance in defense communication technologies, with a vision to establish IRSA as a global benchmark. The initiative began in 2021 and culminated in the approval of IRSA 1.0 in 2025, following extensive stakeholder consultations.
