DRI Seizes 92 Lakh Smuggled Cigarettes in Chennai

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 92.1 lakh sticks of illegally smuggled foreign-origin cigarettes worth Rs. 18.2 crore in Chennai. The operation, conducted on June 23, 2025, revealed that the cigarettes were mis-declared as 'Bathroom and sanitary fittings' and did not comply with packaging regulations. This seizure is part of DRI's ongoing efforts against smuggling, with a total of 4.4 crore sticks seized in the past year, valued at Rs. 79.67 crore.
