Drinking Water Supply in Mayurbhanj District Improves Under Jal Jeevan Mission
The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), initiated by the Government of India in partnership with state governments including Odisha, aims to ensure every rural household has access to tap water. Since its inception in August 2019, notable progress has been made in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, with tap water connections rising from 4% to 70% coverage among rural households. With 1,037 villages achieving full coverage, efforts continue to ensure the remaining households receive this essential resource. The mission has been extended through 2028 with increased funding to complete the initiative and focus on sustaining water services and infrastructure quality. This update was shared by the Minister of State for Jal Shakti in a recent Rajya Sabha session.
