e-Panchayat Initiative and BharatNet Project Aim to Digitize Indian Panchayats by 2027

Under the Digital India Programme, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj is advancing the e-Panchayat Mission Mode Project (MMP) to digitize the operations of Panchayats across India, promoting efficiency and transparency. The initiative includes the development of the eGramSwaraj platform, an online tool for planning and accounting, integrated with the Public Financial Management System for seamless vendor payments. Moreover, the BharatNet project, led by the Department of Telecommunications, is facilitating broadband connectivity, with 2.18 lakh Gram Panchayats ready for high-speed internet. Efforts are ongoing, with an expected completion of the BharatNet project by March 2027. Despite state-wise disparity in progression, the projects intend to foster governance transparency and digital infrastructure nationwide.
