Employment Boost Through PMAY-G and Rural Mason Training Initiatives

The Ministry of Rural Development in India has made significant strides in implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G) since 2016, aiming to construct 4.95 crore houses by March 2029. With over 2.91 crore houses completed so far, the initiative not only provides housing but also generates extensive employment opportunities, with over 585 crore person-days of work generated nationally. The scheme includes components like unskilled labor wages under MGNREGS, assistance for toilets under the Swachha Bharat Mission, and LPG and electricity provision through convergence with other ministries. To address the need for skilled masons, the Rural Mason Training (RMT) program has been launched, enrolling over 3.75 lakh candidates. It's complemented by the Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) initiative, enhancing the skilled workforce and contributing to rural livelihood development.
