The Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) has significantly impacted fish farming in India. Over the past five years, projects worth Rs.544.86 crore have been approved, forming 2195 Fish Farmers Producer Organizations (FFPOs) across the country, with central agencies like the National Fisheries Development Board and others implementing these initiatives. Karnataka has particularly benefited with the approval of various fisheries development projects valued at Rs.1,078.12 crore. These investments aim to economically empower fishers and enhance their bargaining power.
