Enhancements in PM SVANidhi Scheme Empower Urban Street Vendors

The PM SVANidhi scheme, overseen by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, supports urban street vendors with incremental working capital loans, which they can access in tranches contingent upon repayment success. As of January 2026, over 105 lakh loans have been distributed in three phases. Restructured in August 2025, the scheme now features UPI-linked RuPay Credit Cards to further assist street vendors post successful second tranche repayments. The initiative has expanded its reach and benefits, prolonging until March 2030, with extended coverage to include various urban and peri-urban locales. Data from the Indian School of Business indicate a 20% growth in vendor incomes, with 30% now owning formal loans, underscoring newfound credit histories facilitated by PM SVANidhi. Continuous promotional campaigns and digital literacy incentives ensure broadened vendor inclusion and adaptability to cashless transactions.
