Establishment of Metal Scrapping Centres in India

The Indian government is promoting the establishment of metal scrapping centres, including in Maharashtra, through various policies. The Steel Scrap Recycling Policy, 2019, coordinates efforts across ministries to recycle ferrous scrap. The Vehicle Scrapping Policy by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways incentivizes the phasing out of older vehicles. Additionally, the Environment Protection (End-of-Life Vehicles) Rules, 2025, and the Recycling of Ships Act, 2019, aim to ensure environmentally sound management of end-of-life vehicles and ships. These initiatives were detailed by the Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Industries in a Lok Sabha reply.
