The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) now includes additional coverage options for crop damage due to wild animal attacks, following requests from state governments and the Ministry of Environment. This coverage comes at the expense of state governments under the scheme's operational guidelines. Additionally, the scheme offers inundation risk cover for notified crops, with specific provisions for hydrophilic crops like paddy. A committee has developed SOPs and recommendations for managing crop loss claims due to wild animal attacks and inundation, as informed by Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Ramnath Thakur.
