Expansion of Automatic Weather Stations Across India in 2026

Under the Mission Mausam Phase-II, the Government of India has announced plans to set up 200 new Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) primarily Agro-AWS, during 2026. This move aims to enhance agro-meteorological observations and improve weather advisory services for agriculture. Currently, the India Meteorological Department operates over 1000 AWS nationwide and collaborates with other agencies to collect real-time meteorological data.
