Expansion of Bank Mitra Cooperative Societies in India

The Ministry of Cooperation has announced that Dairy and Fishery cooperative societies can become Bank Mitras for District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) and State Cooperative Banks (St.CBs) to enhance business and financial inclusion. Micro-ATMs will be provided to these societies to offer digital financial services. A pilot project launched in July 2023 in Gujarat has led to a nationwide campaign to promote financial transactions among Primary Dairy Cooperative Societies (PDCS). This initiative aims to empower women and backward classes by improving access to formal financial systems through last-mile banking services.
