Expansion of NavIC-based Early Warning System
The Ministry of Earth Sciences has operationalized the NavIC-based early warning services for natural disasters under the SACHET project. This system covers Indian territory and extends 1500 km beyond borders, facilitating alerts for disasters like earthquakes and floods. Following a successful pilot in Tamil Nadu, the government has sanctioned nationwide implementation. The State Disaster Management Authority uses NavIC to disseminate warnings through various communication channels, ensuring efficient monitoring by disaster management authorities.
