The Government of India has announced the extension of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) until 2028, aiming to provide Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) to every rural household. As of July 2025, over 15.67 Crore rural households have tap water supply, representing 80.95% of the total rural households. The extension includes a focus on infrastructure quality and sustainable water service delivery, with a proposal for enhanced funding under consideration.
