FAME India Scheme Phases I and II Implementation and Success

The Indian government's Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) initiative has progressed through two phases, successfully promoting electric vehicle adoption and infrastructure development. Phase-I ran from 2015 to 2019, supporting over 2.8 lakh EVs and establishing charging infrastructure, providing crucial groundwork for the massive roll-out in Phase-II from 2019 to 2024. With an investment of Rs.11,500 crore, Phase-II supported over 16 lakh EVs and installed over 9,000 charging stations. Looking forward, the PM E-DRIVE Scheme aims to address tech and ecosystem challenges, supporting R&D and expanding EV bus and charging infrastructures.
