Fast Track Special Courts Boost Rape and POCSO Case Disposal
The Indian Ministry of Law and Justice has expanded its Fast Track Special Courts (FTSC) scheme, aimed at hastening the adjudication of rape and POCSO-related offenses. Launched in October 2019, the initiative establishes courts dedicated to quick resolution of such crimes, backed by a ₹1,952.23 crore funding package from the Nirbhaya Fund. By September 2025, 773 FTSCs, including 400 exclusive POCSO courts, were operational. These courts are shown to enhance case disposal rates significantly compared to regular courts, averaging 9.51 cases per month, in contrast to the 3.26 in standard settings. The scheme primarily focuses on gender-based violence and improving justice access for victims, with no current plans to extend it to other types of cases.
