Financial Irregularities and Quality Issues in Jal Jeevan Mission

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has received a staggering 17,036 complaints from 32 States and Union Territories regarding financial irregularities and substandard work under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). These complaints stem from multiple sources including public representatives and media reports. The situation is most severe in Uttar Pradesh, which accounts for approximately 84% of all complaints, with the state alone reporting 14,264 issues related to the mission. Actions have been initiated against 621 departmental officials, 969 contractors, and 153 third-party inspection agencies across the country to address these discrepancies. The investigation results have been submitted for nearly all complaints except 52 pending inquiries. The Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna, provided these details in response to a parliamentary question.
