Fisheries Development Boosts Himachal Pradesh's Aquaculture

The Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), initiated by the Department of Fisheries, Government of India, is fostering significant development in Himachal Pradesh’s fisheries sector. Since FY 2020-21, projects worth ₹15,548.08 lakh with a central share of ₹7,947.31 lakh have been approved for the state. The establishment of a Fisheries Training Centre at Gagret is also in progress. Himachal Pradesh has seen a consistent rise in fish production, facilitated by trout and carp farming expansions. Additional initiatives include infrastructure improvements in Gobind Sagar and Maharana Pratap Sagar Reservoirs, with extensive governmental support for sustainable fisheries practices.
